Governors

The Governing body of Blessed Thomas Holford Catholic College consists of 12 governors, which includes parents, staff and representatives from the local community. Governors attend Full Governing Body meetings that take place at least four times a year and also serve on the committees that monitor every aspect of our college life. Rachel White from One Education clerk's all meetings. Governors see their purpose as holding to account the leadership team for the performance of the college.

Our college mission statement guides the work of everyone associated with the college, and we all subscribe to our motto ‘May God’s love be our guide’.

In loving memory of Mr John Shuttleworth – Chair of Governors September 2023 to August 2024

‘An extraordinary ordinary man’

Alison Sharrock

Chair of Governors

I applied to join the governing board because I am committed to Catholic education.  I am a parishioner at St Vincent's RC Church in Altrincham. My day job is as Hulme Professor of Latin at the University of Manchester,  where I specialise in Latin literature and language. I live in Hale with my husband, a computer programmer who is looking forward to retirement. We have three adult children and one grandchild.

Anne-Marie Kelly

Foundation Governor

I have been a practising Catholic all my life, and I am actively involved in St Hugh's Parish in Timperley, including in my roles as Eucharistic minister and reader.  Recently, I have taken semi-retirement from my post as a medically qualified Consultant at Wythenshawe Hospital and I now work just one day a week, including a weekly clinic.  Throughout my medical career, I have been involved in both undergraduate and postgraduate medical education and my special interests have been in student pastoral support and quality assurance of the undergraduate medical curriculum.
I have been married for over 40 years and have 2 children and recently became a grandmother.  My working life never gave me much time for hobbies, but I love reading, and I am an enthusiastic member of a local book club.  One of my other passions is walking with my husband and enjoying nature.

Peter Higgins

Co Opted Governor

I have been a part of the BTHCC family now for over 15 years now and have had all four of my children pass through our great school. Over the years, I have chaired the Pay and Personnel Committee and played the role of Health and Safety Link Governor on Finance and Premises. I currently serve on the Resources Committee and still hold the position of Health and Safety Link Governor.

Peter Mitchell

Foundation Governor

I am a foundation governor, and a committed Catholic who has experience as vice and chair of governors at a local primary school. I support the college with my experience in Educational ICT as a solution and finance expert. I have two boys who have both attended BTHCC, and currently Link Governor for Careers, a member of the Resources Committee, and Vice Chair.

Lesley Ginsburgh

Teacher Governor

I am an experienced Design Technology teacher with 13 years of teaching across schools in Cardiff, London, Southampton, Essex, and Greater Manchester. I joined BTHCC five years ago as a DT teacher and I am now Head of Department. I am very proud to be part of the BTHCC family.

Clare Hogg

Headteacher

I am proud to be the head teacher of such a strong, caring Catholic college family where students are at its heart and thrive. To lead such a dedicated staff, who ensure that our wonderful students receive a world-class education, is an honour and privilege. From an early age I dreamed of becoming a teacher and have been blessed with an amazing vocation in education for over 25 years, including eleven happy years in headship. BTHCC is an exciting place of learning where both adults and students are encouraged to grow in wisdom, and I am particularly proud of our enrichment offer and holistic approach to education.

The staff at Blessed Thomas Holford Catholic College are exceptional and they all go the extra mile to make BTHCC an incredibly special place. All stakeholders: students, staff, parents, and governors are committed to our BTHCC Way and our mission that God's love will always be our guide. We realise that vision every day through our actions and our outcomes.

Stephen Secretan

Associate Governor

I became a governor at Blessed Thomas Holford in 2010. With a professional background in banking it was natural that, as a governor, I would focus on finance matters. I have chaired the school's finance committee (now titled the Resources Committee) for about 10 years. In this time I was also a governor at All Saints Dukinfield where, again, my work was primarily in the business management side of the school.

Peter Cox

Associate Governor

I was formally Chief Executive of a Multi Academy Trust (MAT) in the north of England. Responsible for 3750 students across both primary and secondary phases and 400 staff and recently appointed as an external expert with the Department of Education until at least 2029.

In September 2011, I became an independent education consultant running a private consultancy. An inspirational trainer and keynote speaker. Leading conferences and training on school improvement, including themes such as, inspection frameworks, leadership and management, teaching and learning and school and MAT governance.
